THE GIRL IN THE PHOTO

This is me at age thirteen (post Glamour Shots photo session - hence the heavy makeup and goofy smile.) I have an official author photo that you can see on my author website, but I wanted to post this picture here because this is the age I was when I first knew I wanted to be a writer. I wouldn’t write my first book (a novel-length fan fiction homage to New Kids on the Block) for another year or so, but this was how early on I knew what I wanted to be.

Why am I telling you that? Because I suspect that if you’re here, you may have a similar story. You may have known from very early on that you had stories to tell. You may have had teachers tell you what a good writer you were, but for some reason—life, practicality, family, money—you had to put that writer side of you aside and focus on something else.

Or maybe you didn’t have an inkling to do this until later in life when you were reading a great book and thought—hey, I could do this. Or you were going about your day, and some pesky character showed up in your head and wouldn’t shut up. (Don’t you love how everything about a writer makes us sound like we need a mental health intervention? I hear voices!)

Whatever sparked that first desire to write, it’s led you here now. And I have to say, I couldn’t be happier about that! I write books for a living and have for over a decade, but I’ve also always had the desire to share what I’ve learned along the way with other writers. Early on, before I was even published, I was writing the now-retired Fiction Groupie blog and sharing writing tips. Why? Because the world needs more great stories, in particular, great love stories. There’s room for us all!

Plus, nothing makes my heart hurt more than hearing about someone who didn’t explore some creative desire they had burning within them—or who tried and gave up too soon, not realizing they just didn’t have the right tools yet. Life is so very short. We are born to be creative—even if we have to sometimes fit that creative part of ourselves into the small pockets of time in our lives. Burying that part of ourselves is its own kind of tragedy.

So, if you have love stories to tell, I want to help you tell them in the best way possible. Whether you are just starting out or have been trying and struggling to write, I have classes that can help. I want to teach you solid writing craft, the unique challenges of writing romance, and how to be a fearless writer. I want you to tap into that special creative place inside you that has stories only you can tell.

Stop holding out on us! We want to read those stories. ;)

I want to tell you, just like I would tell that hopeful, dreaming girl in the photo that yes, you can do that. You can write books. And yes, someday, you could be someone’s favorite author.

But you’ll never be someone’s favorite author until you sit down, dedicate time to your craft, and write. So, I hope you’ll join me and take the next step on your journey to being someone’s favorite!

"Extraordinary."

- STARRED review from Kirkus Reviews

“A rich and meaty erotic/contemporary novel. It stands heads and shoulders in its genre. There are no weak story lines linking overly wrought gratuitous sex scenes. Off the Clock is goooood fiction and I quite literally loved every moment."
